PostSubject: How do I get past anxiety about doing things   Tue May 20, 2008 10:26 am

Hi, I have suffered from generalized anxiety for over 8 years now and in truth probably longer. I was diagnosed as having chronic fatigue syndrome after dyhydrating in a mountian bike race in 2000. I spent fours years existing doing very little and always feeling tired and drained. After this period of time Pure O had me seek counselling and medication and it was at this time that therapists explained what I ahd suffered was in fact a massive panic attack that was misdiagnosed.

Anyway my problem is; the anxiety bites hard when I try to do exercise or push my body a little harder than usual and everyones says it's anixety related but my mind still worries it's the chronic fatigue and I get too scared to do any exercise hence perpetuating the cycle as I know doing more exercise would prbably help with my anxiety and depression.

So after four years of being told this I still can't get past that hurdle, constantly protecting myself from overdoing things and in the process missing out on many experiences. Does anyone else feel the same as me????

I too have this as well the fear of pushing myself in any form of exercise thnk it is because we have become so intuned in our own bodies that we look and feel every sensation eg: heart racing,shakes and hard to breathe. I guess it is fear of shit what if i have a heart attack.... what if i have a stroke....... what if i drop dead.... THE WHAT IFS far out i hate them.
I guess looking at it from a outside perspective okay... we have had this dreaded shitful illness for so long have we actually died yet.... have actually havnt had a heart attack... havnt had a had a stroke....... in answer to all of them NO NO NO NO (just added an extra one just in case you thought of somethng else LOL. So were do we go from here well... The experts and all the books say.... FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY. and each time we do things we get better and we dont focuss so much on our bodly sensations and each time it gets easier eg: practice makes perfect lol.....
In order to eliminate fear, one must know the FACTS, understand the answers and follow the correct process for recovery. It's as simple as that. It is also relieving to know that EVERY SINGLE ANXIETY SYMPTOM HAS A LOGICAL EXPLANATION AND CAN BE REVERSED. No ands, ifs or buts about it. FIND YOUR ADULT VOICE!!!!!
Dont know if this will help because I toooo have trouble with this one at times
